Youth Council

The mission of the NAACP Youth Council shall be to inform youth of the problems affecting African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities; to advance the economic, education, social and political status of African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities and their harmonious cooperation with other peoples; to stimulate an appreciation of the African Diaspora and other people of color’s contribution to civilization; and to develop an intelligent, militant effective youth leadership.


Tavian Moore

Youth Council President, Greater Grand Rapids NAACP

Tavian Moore was first elected President of the Greater Grand Rapids NAACP Youth Council in 2016, and re-elected for a second term in 2017. He was born in Grand Rapids, attended and graduated from Grand River Prep. In high school he was a member of the student congress, he facilitated the first ever Black History Month assembly, engaged in community activism, and actively participated (and in many cases created) platforms to bring awareness to many political and environmental issues that he is passionate about.

Tavian is a freshman at Grand Rapids Community College, where he majors in Ecology and Political Science.
